At Edens Landing State School, we strive to provide an exciting curriculum that encourages students to be curious and embrace lifelong learning. Our curriculum is aligned to the standards of the Australian Curriculum Version 9.
For further information about Version 9, parents can visit The V9 Australian Curriculum website External link.
The Australian Curriculum sets the standard for what all students should learn as they progress through their school life – wherever they live in Australia and whichever school they attend.
The Australian Curriculum Version 9 Learning Areas we provide at ELSS are:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences)
- HPE (Health and Physical Education)
- Technologies (Design and Digital)
- The Arts (Dance, Drama, Media Arts, and Visual Arts)
- Music
- Languages (Japanese in year 5 and 6)
Students are taught, assessed and reported on these learning areas in accordance with the K-12 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework: https://education.qld.gov.au/curriculums/Documents/k-12-curriculum-assessment-reporting-framework.pdf
Student outcomes are measured against the achievement standard at each juncture (year or band, depending on the learning area). At a school level, we plan to deliver a curriculum that ensures all students have opportunities to engage in meaningful learning that is relevant to real life contexts.
Our term units have a strong focus on developing the knowledge and skills students will need to participate and shape their futures. We prioritise aligning learning to local contexts that are relevant to the communities our students belong to. The learning opportunities provided by our units enable the school to produce a culture of high expectations and positive relationships.
Student achievement against the Australian Curriculum Version 9 standards are reported to parents twice a year through an electronic report card that is emailed to families at the end of term 2 and 4.
Parents can stay informed about the curriculum that is planned for their child in their year level by accessing the ELSS Curriculum “At a Glance" documents on this website or on our school's Facebook page and Seesaw app. Parents are also sent a term newsletter by the classroom teacher that outlines the curriculum that will be covered in each learning area across the upcoming term. In this way we encourage our families to become “Partners in Learning" and provide an opportunity for the sharing of learning between school and home.
